I was looking for the various psychometric scales for Emotional and Mental well being for children. I came across your Trait Emotional intelligence, TEIQue_CF. I have read about it on the net and was very curious to see the questionnaire in order to decide how useful it would be for our study.
I am writing on behalf of our NGO organisation, Yoga Prana Vidya.
Yoga Prana Vidya (YPV) is an integrated , holistic healing system handling the health in various ways simultaneously – using a holistic approach including diet, exercises, breathing techniques, meditations, bringing changes in the environment of the people as well as change in their attitude to the environment.
We were planning on doing a research on how certain breathing exercise, meditation and discussion on character building virtues, helping kids get aware of their emotions and thoughts and learning to calm down, recognising what they want and express clearly without blaming others; empathise with others, etc. – help kids to cope with stress, help them with better emotional and intellectual abilities.
Our research also includes the adults (parents, teachers / caregivers) around children, and help them with these techniques and also sessions on nurturing and parenting tips, concrete tools and practical exercises to help transform or re-program their habitual thoughts, emotions, speech and actions around children. Thus, helping them change their perception, encourage them to use positive ways to motivate children and also in creating a peaceful and favourable environment around children.
For the purpose of research, I was looking at the various psychometric scales. As I mentioned, I came across your scale, but I am not able to see the questionnaire.
Basically I am looking for a scale or scales that include:
– Awareness of ones feelings
– managing emotions
– Self compassion and empathy
– empathy towards others
– positive perception towards situations
– abilty to calm down
– ability to cope stress
– self esteem
– expressing oneself clearly without blaming others
– Flexibility for finding multiple solutions to solve problems
– inter-personal relationships
So, in order to figure scales that meets these requirements and also are reliable and validated, it will help if I can see the questionnaire. Can we please have your questionnaire to check if it fits our research requirement. In case it fits, we ll definitely write to you, seek your permission and buy the product (if required) in order to use it.
We are looking for the age group of 12-15 years kids. Also, wanted to know the validity of this scale.
Alternatively, if you can suggest any other psychometric scales for children (/ adults filling up for children ) to check any improvement in the above said areas …. would be very helpful
Thanks and regards,
(Yoga Prana Vidya)

Prof. K. V. Petrides,
I would like to donate to the laboratory for the use of your instrument. I am unable to find the means to do so on your website. Please advise.

My post graduate research is to develop test items for a psychological test, publish and administer the test to collect data. Validity of the test will be assessed against the Big five personality traits.
My literature research has resulted in reading many conflicting views in the field of emotional intelligence theory and testing. I have finally been directed to your research and development of Trait emotional intelligence theory. If possible could I view a copy of the TEIQue items. I downloaded the excel spreadsheet and it only has item numbers. I have also been guided by the test development of Schutte et al.. a well regarded lecturer at my university.
I am also interested in reading the most influential article published on trait emotional intelligence published (2007), as noted on the Wikipedia page. Do you have a link or title so I can read this article.
Could you also direct me to which article published in 2001 has the theoretical underpinnings of trait emotional intelligence, an operational definition of the construct and its precise location in established trait hierarchies Petrides and Furnham (2001) as quoted from the article titled,
The role of emotional intelligence in academic performance and deviant behaviour, Petrides et al., 2002
Since commencing my research I have realised there is quite some debate about the distinction between trait and ability emotional intelligence.
Are the current views of theorists changing to having more consensus about emotional intelligence (traits and ability distinction of EI) or has the division remained?
My introduction was to read about Mayer et al. (2000) criticising other models of emotional intelligence because they include various personality traits as well as abilities.
With thanks in advance
Thank you for your email, which is unfortunately too long for a response.
Good luck with your research.

We are here to ask permission but first we shall introduce ourselves
first, We are the Grade 12 students from St. Alphonsus Catholic School
Lapu Lapu city Cebu region 7 in the Philippines looking for tests that
will measure “emotional intelligence” as we were doing a research
study about “The Effects of Online Class to Grade 11 Student’s
Emotional Intelligence”. The purpose of this study is to determine the
difficulties of grade 11 students of St. Alphonsus Catholic School who
are taking online classes. At this stage, emotional intelligence will
be defined as adequate if the student delivers their roles in online
distance learning. We would like to use this because this test is very
suitable in our research study and also this questionaires are very
connected in our study. And we do hope for your kind consideration in
asking a permission to borrow this test and use it in our research
study that is conducted here in our school we promise not to share to
questionaire with other people who didn’t ask for your permission we
will keep this questionaire as safe as possible away from being
plagiarized and being stolen by others We do hope for your response on
this request and we do hope you will have the heart to help us by
letting us borrow your questionaire this will be a big help in our
research study. We thank you in advance and more power

I would like to use the TEIQue-SF for an academic paper. But, I don’t understand how it should be measured. Once I have the results, should I send them to you to get the score?
We do not provide any information concerning research usage beyond what is already available on our various websites. Thank you.
